Ah August- icy mornings spent swathed in layers only to have us shrugging off our coats come lunch. We’re past the worst of winter but it’s still a long slog til the warmer months. In a bid to shed some winter bulk in both in our fashion and beauty wardrobes, we rounded up our favourite trans-seasonal pieces this August.
Bobbi Brown Retouching Face Pencil
We’re suckers for multitasking, and Bobbi Brown’s latest launch has replaced about 4 items in our beauty kit. Their Retouching Face Pencil can hide a multitude of sins, including dark circles, blemishes and redness. It’s even perfect for a spot of contouring if you get your hands on two shades. We’ve been using the light medium on our water line and around the base of the nose to nix redness. Perfect on a bare weekend face if you’re over heavy winter makeup.
Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming
Our enamored love affair with Dior continues with the pretty new edition to the Miss Dior family, Absolutely Blooming. This new version has top notes of red fruit, pomegranate and raspberry that open up to a heart of rose and peony. The musky base keeps it warm enough to remind you of the original, but the floral notes have us dreaming of spring… Spritz when you’re feeling carefree and a little flirty- Sunday drinks with the girls maybe?
Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup
We’ve seen and loved cushion foundations, but the brains at Estee Lauder have one-upped everyone in the beauty game and introduced us to the latest innovation we didn’t know we needed until now. Their Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup is part of the Double Wear family (i.e. flawless coverage), but imparts a sheerer glow than its heavier counterpart. It melts into skin, adds a healthy dose of moisture and leaves skin with a luminous glow. It’s a must in any makeup kit.
Onne Balancing Body Balm
Our natural skin care obsession is far from over, and we were super excited when we unwrapped a pretty package from Australian brand ONNE. Natural, vegan, cruelty free AND gluten free, their Balancing Body Balm is our latest bathroom staple. Packed with coconut oil and cocoa seed butter, we slathered it on after showering. And with an ingredient list we can read without a degree in chemistry, we were sold. Snaps to the Aussie duo that brought this brand about earlier this year.
Clarins Multi-Active Jour and Nuit Creams
Winter leeches all moisture from our face, leaving it parched. Enter the new Clarins Multi Active Day & Night Range. Using plant technology, it reduces the appearance of fine lines, soothes and boosts radiance. The day formula brightens while the night cream gets busy doing all the hard work night creams should. We’ve been trialling the line for dry skin- it leaves skin dewy but not sticky. They even come in a pink bottle for AM and blue for PM, so zero confusion come 6am getting-ready-for-work.
Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer
Matte lipsticks are scary (winter means a dry flaky pout), but look so damn chic when executed properly. Clinique have come and answered all of our prayers with their new Matte Lip Colours. The first step is the primer to lock in moisture and prep a perfect base. The second step is, of course colour. The finish is almost suede-like, e.g. zero drying/rolling/caking throughout the day, which is so hard to nail when it comes to mattes. The poppy shades are perfect for a colour injection to your all-black ensemble.
