Here’s a confession. I did not want to do these swimsuit shots. I hadn’t really planned to shoot swimwear, it’s just when I was sourcing the clothes for my Summer Style Essentials shoot, I got so excited with all the beautiful pieces (I mean, this Duskii one piece…) that I just forgot that I would have to actually wear them. And be photographed. Luckily, our amazing photographer, Alice and makeup artist Veronikawere on hand to apply a host of clever techniques to help disguise my mum’s tum and cellulite. We rounded up some of those tips, along with a few of our own, to give you some real life health and beauty hacks that will make you feel amazing in your swimsuit. I promise. Hey, if I can do it, so can you.

FOR STATUESQUE PINS IN THAT ONE PIECE:

Beauty Cheat:

Cellulite is a normal (and healthy) part of life (I’ve come to accept mine!), but if you want to feel your glossy best, use a coffee scrub like Frank to eliminate scaly skin (caffeine is believed to have a tightening effect) before smoothing on a firming moisturiser, we love Clarins Body Shaping Cream. Finally, one hack worth its weight in gold is to rub a little liquid body bronzer down the center of your shins like Benefit Hoola Zero Tan Lines Body Bronzerto elongate legs and give you a healthy sheen.

Health Hack:

DUSKIIONE PIECE

If walking between the deck chair and the waters edge isn’t enough, try a circuit of squats, lunges and steps ups (park benches work well for this) for toned legs and a lifted derrière. If you like getting active outdoors, cycling and uphill hiking are also ace for toned pins.

Swimsuit Style:

If your legs are your strong suit, a sporty one piece is the perfect way to highlight them. I love Dusski  swimsuits for swimming laps and watersports – as they won’t come off and the neoprene fabric is really forgiving.

FOR ARMS AND SHOULDERS THAT LOOK AMAZING IN A HALTER:

MARA HOFFMAN ONE PIECE

Beauty Cheat:

Chicken Skin (or more scientifically known as Keratosis Pilaris) is a common condition that causes rough, bumpy skin on the back of the arms. If this is cramping your arm-bearing swimwear style, try Dermadoctor KP Duty Scrub or Paula’s Choice Skin Revealing Body Lotion with 10% AHA to unclog the follicles.

Health Hack:

Sometimes the only exercise I have time for is toting babies and groceries, but if you can squeeze in some toning it’s worthwhile. Next time you’re beach (or park!) side, find a bench and do 3 rounds of 15 x pushups and 15 x tricep dips.

Swimsuit Style:

Halters are great for baring shoulders and svelte arms. This Mara Hoffmanone-piece also works perfectly if afternoon drinks are on the cards, add some high-waisted shorts or a denim skirt and you’re done.

FOR A GIGI-LIKE TONED MID SECTION:

Beauty Cheat:

Bikini’s don’t have to instil fear or leave you running for the nearest cover up. One of the easiest ways to feel more confident is a healthy dose of colour, and we’re partial to the fake variety. Try Mine Tan Original 1 Hour Express Tan for a hit of colour the morning of the pool party.

Health Hack:

Bikini’s and bloating do not go hand in hand. Our first tip is to avoid carbonated drinks, and yes, this also means the Veuve. Steer clear of processed foods with added sugars, refined carbohydrates and cruciferous vegetables. Instead sip on lemon water, peppermint tea, and add some foods with good bacteria like sauerkraut and plain greek yoghurt.

Swimsuit Style:

This gingham Solid and Striped Bikini is on trend, and the top contains enough fabric to support a medium sized bust. If you’re still not completely sold and crave more fabric, retro high-cut bottoms will give you a little more coverage.

SOLID AND STRIPED BIKINI

FOR A SVELTE BACK IN ANYTHING LOW-CUT:

ZIMMERMANN ONE PIECE

Beauty Cheat:

Bacne is not glamorous, but it is real, particularly during this sweaty time of year. If you’re a gym junkie, firstly, props to you. Secondly, use a towel to avoid coming into contact with nasty bacteria. If you’re cropping up a few spots, use a body wash specifically formulated to unclog pores; we like Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Antibacterial Bar followed by Paula’s Choice Clear Acne Body Spray with 2% Salicylic Acid.

Health Hack:

Posture- don’t slouch! All over fitness will give you a strong toned back- try pilates for strength, fitness and a really good stretch.

Swimsuit Style:

This Zimmerman one piece had an amazing low cut neckline in the front and the back. It draws the eye down and cuts in at precisely the right spot, giving the illusion of a smaller waist – no side planks required. Plus, it’s black (slimming) with a few aptly placed ruffles (curves)- enough said.

Does the Mine Tan stay on well if you go in the water??

      Hi Mandy,
All tan’s will come off in chlorine. Salt water isn’t as bad – just make sure you pat your skin dry when you get out and mositurise as much as possible x
