No royal wave needed here. Just simple, attainable beauty cues from the perfectly preened and primped Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Ever since we donned bows bigger than our heads and frilled frocks, the thought of being a Princess was a perennial girlhood dream. Here we take style and beauty notes from the visiting Duchess, as we channel those Princess vibes. Get your Tiara ready and dabble in some of your own royal treatment…

MAKE UP

The Look – Subtle and Sexy

They say when you’re onto a good thing, stick to it. Kate most definitely heeds this advice in regards to beauty. All through her reign, The Duchess has maintained her signature make up look: smoky eyes paired with a natural lip and rosy cheeks. Eyes are framed with darker tones of black and charcoal (both atop and under the eye), accompanied with a bold liner and lashings of black mascara. This smoky rendition however, remains classy and appropriate for day, toned down with a softer lip and cheek. Lips are natural and barely there; smiles in neutral nudes and pink palettes. Forever radiant, in part, due to her perennially rosy cheeks; cheekbones are always dusted with pink-hued blush, ensuring a royal glow.

HAIR

The Look – Groomed and Glam

The mane of The Duchess is the envy of many; beautifully, thick, healthy locks which always seem to sit perfectly (even in the winds of private jets). With a blunt cut, middle part and front layers, her rich, chocolate tresses are pared-down glam; think brushed-out blow waves. For more casual affairs, her hair is simple and unadorned; out and choppy, with a good dose of volume. The formality of the St Andrews Cathedral beckoned for a dressier do’, her go to style; perfectly pinned and half-up with a knot and loose twist. The look often completed with stunning headwear.

SKIN

The Look – Flawless and Glowing

Perhaps it simply comes down to being a Royal, but Kate is always glowing and radiant. However never orange nor over the top. When she visited Australia, she hopped from beach to desert, with slightly-bronzed skin (as if gently kissed by the Australian sun), with the help of London-based faux tan LDN: SKINS. In keeping with earthy make-up, skin was matte and flawless; acting to enhance natural beauty rather than conceal it.

STYLE

The Look – Sophisticated yet Fun

Kate may be a royal, but she certainly shies away from the dowdy and dull. Forever championing sophistication and class, she often packs a playful punch, by injecting traditional shapes with pop colour (Prince William noting her yellow Roksanda Ilincic frock was reminiscent of a “banana”). She’s also not afraid to pop out her pins (we would too if ours looked like that), in shorter, above the knee hemlines. Donning a mix of British and Australian designers on her down under visit, Kate always returns to her own (Mc)Queen of the fashion world, Alexander. She stepped out in Adelaide in a powder pink McQueen two-piece complete with peplum and floaty A-line hem, whilst the standout, was a dove grey McQueen coat, adorned with an exquisite headpiece by Jane Taylor millinery. Paying homage to Australian talent, she chose Zimmermann as her Australian designer, wearing an ivory broderaie anglaise sun dress to the Easter Show (which won’t be in store until June ladies). She channelled earthy vibes whilst in Uluru, accessorising a grey-checked (and cheap) Hobbs frock with a native Indigenous necklace adorned by an Aboriginal Elder. Accessories were kept classic and minimal, wrists wrapped in Cartier, necklines draped in Asprey charms and lobes dangling with Annoushka pearls, Catherine Zoraida gold and sapphire, citrine and diamonds. Shoes too were classic, pumps and wedges hued in glossy nudes and natural raffia and cork.
