Party season is upon us and with it comes the threat of wardrobe malfunctions and long, drawn out preening sessions. In a bid to keep our beauty routines short and sharp, we canvassed the top makeup trends according to our favourite girls on Instagram and give you six shortcuts to achieve the looks – in as little time as possible.

1. TURN YOUR SHADOW INTO LINER

@GIGIHADID AND @BELLAHADID BACKSTAGE AT DIANE VON FURSTENBERG S/S 2016

The blue eye make up movement was in full force at recent spring runway shows as sported by supermodel sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid. And lucky for us, this trend is just in time for party season. Swap out your nudes and browns for a powder blue eye shadow, or to turn your eyeshadow into eyeliner, take a fine-tipped eyeliner brush, dip it in water and then in the darkest shade of your eyeliner palette. We love Chanel’s ‘Tisse Jazz’ as it as has three on-trend edit blue shades and a pearly highlighter to create a multitude of smokey and lined eye looks.

2. MAKE YOUR LIPSTICK LAST THE DISTANCE

MERLOT MOMENTS WITH @OFFICIALANNASUI

We generally associate burgundy-hued lips with the wintery months, but they look seriously smoking with tawny-toned skin. To add an element of edginess to your outfit, why not try a dark red lip with bare skin? Designer Anna Sui showed this trend at her most recent runway show, incorporating a backdrop of floral prints and fresh faced models with a dark lip for sophisticated cool. We love Tom Ford’s dark, dreamy shades that are highly pigmented and comfortably creamy – try Bruised Plum. To make it last the distance, apply one coat, then powder in between with translucent powder, before applying a second coat and blotting. The powder takes the oil out of the lipstick, leaving the pigment.

3. SWAP YOUR POWDER SHADOW FOR CREAM

The metallic eye is an easy to way to add a shot of festive sparkle to your outfit a la Jaime King – and they also serve to brighten and lift the eye area. To incorporate a metallic eye shadow in to your makeup rotation, cream shadows are pretty much goof-proof. Simply swipe on with your finger and forget. For a more intense look you can build it up and put a powder on top (which also helps it last all night). For staying power you can’t beat Bobbi Brown’s long wear range to smoulder all the way from desk to drinks.

4. GET A LITTLE CREDIT FOR YOUR EYELINER

EYELINER’S COOL GIRL @CHUNGALEXA ROCKING PERFECT WINGS

Liquid liner is that look that everyone loves to hate – mainly because it’s impossible to get it looking like Alexa Chung’s. But it’s worth persevering because this trend isn’t going anywhere this festive season and will add is the best way to add an edge of sophistication and sexiness to your outfit. Thankfully, our girl Alexa has teamed up with British-born Eyeko London to create an eyeliner that is as easy to apply as it looks. The nib is the perfect shape and allows for greater control, while also being waterproof, (no need to worry about it ending up halfway down your face.) To get the perfect flicks try positioning a credit card from the corner of your eye to the finishing point of your brow, then draw a flick that follows that line.

5. DIY YOUR OWN TOUCHUPS

@OLIVIAPALERMO ROCKING HER SIGNATURE RED MANI

Bright manicured nails are the perfect accessory to your party outfit this festive season. Fitting in time to maintain perfectly sculptured nails takes effort and extra time that most of us don’t have. Next time you’re at the salon getting a mani, make sure you purchase the nail polish that you choose so you can easily touch up any chips half way through the week. Another tip is to apply a top coat every second day to reinforce the polish and keep it strong. In terms of shades, we love a big bold red that exudes glamour and easily takes you from desk to drinks.  The effortlessly chic Olivia Palermo is known for her signature red nails and effortless style. This party season Ms Palermo has teamed up with London beauty brand Ciate to bring us a shade of red we can’t resist. You can try this look at home with Ciate Londons Olivia Palermo X Ciate nail collection in ‘Hutch-My Go To Red’, available for a limited time at Mecca Cosmetica and Mecca Maxima.

6. STROBE IN YOUR SLEEP

MODEL AND MUM-TO-BE @CHRISSYTEIGEN LOOKING STROBED TO PERFECTION

Model and mum-to-be Chrissy Teigen highlights her enviable features with beauty technique ‘strobing’ .This celeb favourite focuses on highlighting features, rather than darkening them through contouring. M.A.C classic Strobe Cream is the original luminiser we’ve all grown to love and is super simple to use (you could practically do it with your eyes closed). For all-over radiance mix a dab with your favourite foundation, or use it on high points of the face to create that ‘spotlit’ strobing effect.
