With the weather getting colder and the days getting shorter, it’s time to pull out the cashmere, turn up the dial on the heater and overhaul your makeup bag for the season ahead. Think intense teals, deep plums and soft greys, as well as the latest and greatest foundations and bronzers. Here, our pick of the best new beauty buys you need to own this season.
Add a high dose of drama with Tom Ford’s new Extreme Mascara in Teal Intense. Beauty Editor’s Tip: For a statement look, apply to the full lengths of your lashes. Or, if you prefer a more subtle pop of colour, try applying a black mascara to your lashes first then layering a coat of Extreme Mascara in Teal Intense just on the very tips of your lashes.
We’re slightly obsessed with the recently revamped iconic Chanel Rouge Coco Lipsticks. Packed with mimosa, jojoba and sunflower, they’re super nourishing so won’t make your lips dry, even during those cooler months when we’re more exposed to the elements. Our favourite autumn shade? Etienne - a beautiful, deep plum.
We’ve been waiting ever so patiently for Hourglass to bring out a bronzer and now that they finally have, we’re pleased to report that it’s been well worth the wait. If you want that candlelit, bronzed, I’m-back-from-the-Bahamas kinda glow, Hourglass’ new Ambient Lighting Bronzer is your answer.

The Eye Shadow Palette
Ok, so who doesn’t love a new NARS limited edition eye shadow palette? Intensely pigmented, you can wear these new release eyeshades on their own or even layer a few together. Beauty Editor’s Tip: Try using the darker shades like you would a liquid eyeliner by dampening a narrow eye liner brush with water, then applying the shadow along your upper lash line.
The Nail Polish
Channel your inner Anastasia Steele with L’Oreal’s new Colour Rich Nail Polish in Mademoiselle Grey, a pretty and understated, neutral shade that is perfect for autumn. At under $10, it’s a bargain.
Elizabeth Arden’s new Flawless Finish Perfectly Satin Matte Foundation is super long wearing but still really lightweight so you won’t feel like it’s caked on. It has SPF 15 in it too, which is important because sun damage can occur all year round, even when it is overcast.
The Eye Pencil
Revlon’s PhotoReady Kajal Matte Eye Pencil in Charcoal hits shelves this month and it’s our new secret weapon for achieving that soft and sultry, matte smoky eye. It gets bonus points for the handy built-in smudger too.
The Makeup Bag
We’re big fans of makeup queen Charlotte Tilbury over here at Beauticate HQ and when it comes to organizing makeup in style, she’s got us covered. We can’t get enough of her glam oxblood makeup bag emblazoned with her signature metallic rose gold kisses.
