As the face of Garnier, Carrie Bickmore is not just a step ahead when it comes to current events as co-host on The Project, she also knows beauty. Having long been our favourite golden girl of the small screen, she's now showing off her darker side with a newly brunette mane, and we're loving it. Carrie sat down with us mid-transformation to talk about her beauty routine, her work/life balance and her new 'do.

“Growing up, I watched my mum juggle three kids, full time work and a life so I never saw her spend hours in the bathroom…

She didn’t have time! She would duck in, have a few go-to products (I can still remember the smell of her apricot/almond night cream that she used to put on) and that would be it. Now I’m the same when I’m not at work!

Between working on The Project, looking after two kids and keeping on top of everything at home, my routine is really simple.

I put on Garnier BB Cream in the morning before school drop off with mascara and lip balm- that’s it. I wear heavy make up on the show so I can’t wait to come home, wipe off my make up with Micellar Water, put on a couple of serums and some moisturiser.

As far as my hair is concerned, I need low maintenance, and that’s why the colour is so important.

While I get it done every day on the project, on weekends I like to go for a run, duck to a pilates class and have a long list of errands. I need to be able to chuck it up in a pony and get on with things. When I have a good colour, it makes it so much easier.

A NEW HUE IS THE PERFECT TRANS-SEASONAL PICK-UP

It’s been really nice to have a change of hair colour.

The last time I tried to go brown I was 19 and it was a disaster, it came out red and didn’t suit me. I still remember the look on my friend’s faces! I think it scared me off ever trying it again, but thankfully home hair colour has come a long way!  But I am finding the older I get, the more confident I am getting to take risks. It’s only hair, it will grow back, and it’ll go back to its natural colour, just give it a crack I say!

I love my blonde but…

… with the change of seasons I wanted to try being a brunette. That’s why I love Nutrisse because it makes my hair so soft and shiny that even when I don’t style it, it looks done. I used Garnier Nutrisse in shade 6, Acorn.

My style is simple, I wear pretty much jeans and a tee or activewear…

I do actually exercise in it, not just coffee! I’m conscious of spending more time looking out to the world than in a mirror, it was something my mum taught me. I really want to pass it on to my daughter in this social media heavy world. Of course I like to look nice, eat well, exercise, work hard and have fun, but I like to feel like I am contributing to the world and making a difference, that’s what’s important”.

How long does this colour typically last?

Depends on the condition of hair and how you look after it. If the hair is porous and damaged colour will generally last longer. Use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner as well.

Wow so used to Carrie as a beautiful platinum blonde – this brunette is going to take some getting used to… still beautiful as ever!

Does color from a box (like Garnier Nutrisse) last as long as the salon?

      Hi Isabella,

Depending if you usually get a tint or permanent colour at your usual hairdresser, it should last the same provided you use proper after colour care (the Garnier Nutrisse is a permanent colour)
