When I go out, I race out the door and too often I default to the same few scents… falling back on great warm weather scented soundtracks of my life like Chanel Les Exclusifs La Pausa, Byredo Pulp and Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess. However, this month, I decided to come up with a new list of treasured aromas, far beyond the cozy confines of my shelf – picked particularly for balmy evenings spent alfresco. Here, six new scents to take you from afternoons to aperitifs.
Chanel L’Eau EDT 50ml, $164
While the original Chanel No 5 has always been that little bit intense for me to wear day to day, I just loved looking at it and spraying it when I want to feel a bit special. L’Eau is No 5’s brand new sexy little sister, and it’s absolutely beautiful and very wearable. A fresh gust of honey and mandarin hit you first and then it rounds out with musk, cedar and hints of the classic rose and jasmine blend that made No 5 famous. The little black dress of evening scents.
Rodin Olio Lusso Perfume, $346
I’ve always loved the smell of Linda Rodin’s epic facial oil – Olio Russo. So I was thrilled when she made a perfume out of the fragrance. It’s seriously floral and intense – like standing in front of a jasmine bush in full bloom. Perfect to wear to a wedding or an event where you want to smell feminine and stand out in the crowd.
Alaia Paris EDP Blanche, $168
If a white bodycon lasercut dress had a smell, this would be it. As you would expect coming from the house of Alaia, it’s sexy, but with the white overtones, it’s also soft. The perfumer called the scent a “white milky florality”, but to me it smells like creamy musk, vanilla and powder. It begs to be worn with white leather, a tan and a dose of attitude.
Altaia Don’t Cry For Me EDP 100ml, $277 from Mecca Cosmetica
This gorgeous brand hails from Positano and tells the love story of the founders and has the most unique and beautiful scents. Don’t Cry For Me is another jasmine-heavy scent (I’m sensing a theme here) but it has a freshness about it so it doesn’t end up cloying or headachey. It’s totally original, I’ve never smelt anything like it and when I wear it I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. Magic in a bottle.
Marc Jacobs Decadence One Eight K Edition EDP 100ml, $195
This full blown sexy scent is not for the faint hearted. But nothing Mr. Jacobs does is. The sweet, almost intoxicating mix of rose, jasmine and juicy Italian plum is instantly morish and mouthwatering. It’s definitely one for date night and parties, that will have people stopping to ask you what you’re wearing. N.B. the amazing gold handbag style bottle is limited edition for Christmas (hits counter November 27) but contains the same juice as the original Marc Jacobs Decadence.
Goldfield & Banks Desert Rosewood, EDP 100ml, $229
What happens when a Belgian-French fragrance expert (who has worked for the likes of Tom Ford and YSL) moves to Australia and falls in love with the landscape, the flora and all its varied and spectacular smells? He creates a perfume range, of course! Employing some of the best noses in the business and using top quality ingredients this stunning collection highlights the places and perfumes of our wonderful country. My pick? Desert Rosewood – an all out sensual and delicious mix of woods, vanilla, patchouli and cardamom. Expect random embraces.
Mr Ford’s latest creation is epic. It’s salty skin with sunscreen on it… sunset over tropical gardens… cocktails on a private island… canoodling in the back of a speedboat. Every fantasy I have about summer seems to be right here in this little white bottle. It’s the ultimate scent to pack in your luggage and wear on holiday evenings that never seem to end.
