Any natural beauty junkie worth their pink Himalayan salt has Weleda Skin Food on high rotation. Not only does the scrumptious mix of plant oils and balms smell herbalicious, it literally transforms parched skin on contact. The mix of calendula, chamomile, beeswax and lanolin soothes and cossets upset skin and leaves it feeling hydrated and happy. So it was a landmark moment when the company decided to add three new variants to the Skin Food Line earlier this year: Skin Food Light, Skin Food Body Butter and Skin Food Lip Balm.

I became a fan of the original Skin Food when I first came across the brand several years ago, but it’s actually been around since 1926. Weleda’s story is a moving one – it was founded by Rudolf Steiner along with doctor Ita Wegman and chemist Oskar Schmiedel in Germany in 1921 – and they were way ahead of their time. Long before being green and mindful was even a thing, their philosophy was to create holistically formulated products that would help the body heal itself. Fast forward nearly a hundred years and their dictum seems more relevant now than ever. All their products are free from chemical nasties and feature ingredients that they farm biodynamically themselves or source from ethical partnerships. It helps that the products smell absolutely sublime and are a joy to use, too.

The emerald in Weleda’s crown has always been Skin Food – this little green tube has garnered constant mentions in the media and has a host of superstar fans including Rihanna, Julia Roberts and Victoria Beckham, so it was only a matter of time before Weleda came out with some equally wonderful accompanying products. I was sent the range to try (and you can too – read on to find out too). Here’s what I thought…

Weleda Skin Food Light: Lighter and more readily absorbed than the original balm, this lotion is still super hydrating. It’s smooth and silky on contact, with the trademark herbaceous smell. Perfect for the face or for times when you want the formula to sink in quickly.

Weleda Skin Food Body Butter: This superbly rich body balm is such a delicious way to nurture your body all over. It has a thick, almost wax-like texture that contains shea and cocoa butter and melts on contact with skin leaving a gorgeous sheen to limbs. It doesn’t contain lanolin (so it is great for vegans) and isn’t as thick or unctuous as the original.

Weleda Skin Food Lip Balm: A lovely silky slip of a lip balm that is blended with beeswax, pansy, and organic chamomile to protect and soothe parched lips.
