Situated in the inner west suburb of Rozelle, is flagship Aveda salon, Robertson Kirkwood. With minimalist lines and modern fittings, the space is flooded by an abundance of natural light. The friendly team ooze warmth and knowledge from the moment you walk in the door, making you never want to leave.

As I walk through the doors off the busy Darling Street, I’m greeted by the most gorgeous light fitting I’ve ever seen. I’m ushered through to a streamlined bucket chair, and caped up before being offered an Aveda Stress Relieving Ritual with a head and neck oil massage, using the brand’s beautiful Blue Oil – a mix of blue chamomile and peppermint –which proves nothing short of magic. Suddenly the woes of Sydney’s nightmarish traffic and short-term parking schemes melt away.

I’m then introduced to the salon owner and highly esteemed Aveda stylist, Terri Robertson Kirkwood. From a few minutes of chatting, I clock that this is a woman of serious hair know-how and capability. After a few leading questions about my personal hair habits and lifestyle, she has a game plan for my tortured strands, and I’m whisked away for a wash.

THE SALON STAYS TRUE TO AVEDA’S FOCUS ON NATURE AND WELLBEING, AS WELL AS RESULTS.

Given that I’m a bit hot-tong-happy at the best of times (and have the split ends to prove it) Terri prescribes the Aveda Dry Remedy hair range. After a wash with Aveda Dry Remedy Shampoo, followed by a generous lick of the leave in Dry Remedy Moisturizing Masque to intensely hydrate and lock in moisture, I can always hear my tresses singing with happiness.

Next up, Terri applies the Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil to help nourish and coat the ends of my hair.  I can safely say that this is a product I will treasure and re-purchase for many years to come as it gave my hair an undeniable gloss and softness. Later that evening, friends were commenting on my hair and asking if I’d had it coloured – when all I’d had was a wash and style.

A ZEN HIDEAWAY FROM THE FRENETIC CITY SURROUNDINGS

With the split ends addressed and my head feeling exceptionally refreshed, it was time for my blowdry – a skill I endeavour to hone before 2017. After discussing season trends (something the salon is clearly well versed in as Terri is the Hair Director for the David Jones National Fashion Launch) we settle on an effortless, fallen curl look that would accentuate the newly nourished tresses.  As she expertly wound my strands around a big round brush, Terri chats through the process, giving me tips and tricks to make my own technique a little more professional. I love it when stylists take the time to explain what they’re doing.

With Terri at the helm and an accomplished team of hairstylists working alongside her, there’s something truly special, tranquil and personable about this salon experience. I’ll definitely be heading back for a colour consult and cut.
