For years the Observatory Day Spa in Sydney was, without doubt, one of the city’s top chill-out zones. Then it changed hands (enter the Langham Hotel chain) and towards the end of 2014 the spa, and the hotel, underwent a huge renovation programme. The hotel has a new chic restaurant and sophisticated entranceway, making it a hotspot for visiting celebrities. And the spa? A face lift has given it a new lease of life.

It pays to book a few days in advance here, as it can get pretty busy at times. The Spa’s signature treatment, the Babor Facial is a cleaning, exfoliating and soothing treatment which lasts a lovely, luxurious sixty minutes. If you’re a fan of La Prairie products you’re in luck as the Spa team can be found doing some incredible treatments with those too. For a treat to yourself ask for the Perfect Gold Massage which involves 24-carat gold-encrusted cream. Following your hour-long facial or personalised aromatherapy massage why not sip a cup of green tea and nibble on some nuts? You could also go for a languishing dip in the heated whirlpool (the bubbling water takes up the whole far wall of the stunning sandstone and marble lounge area). The Lounge is also where the incredible 20-metre indoor pool sits, underneath a shiny star-filled sky. Guests are invited to energise themselves with a few lengths in the pool or even do a quick gym session (provided they can muster the energy).
