With winter well and truly on its way, you’re probably starting to pack away all of your summer staples. Why not save yourself the task and get creative with your wardrobe? Here are our tips on making the most of your summer purchases…

1. LAYER UP! (WELL, OBVIOUSLY…)

IMAGE FROM: ADORENESS

This tip seems pretty obvious, and you probably hear it every Winter, but layering is certainly one of our favourite ways to bring summer clothes into the cooler seasons. Get creative- layer your knits over shirts, or shirts over knits. Think outside the box by throwing a denim jacket over the top of your look or turn a sarong into a shawl. There are so many possibilities…

Just add: a gradual tanner to extend your Summer glow. Our pick is Tan-Luxe’s The Butter Gradual Tanner to keep your skin bronzed and hydrated throughout Winter.

2. LAYER YOUR STATEMENT SLEEVE BLOUSE UNDER A SLIP DRESS

Statement sleeves have been a key trend lately, with everything from bell sleeves to  80s style balloon sleeves (we bet you didn’t think you’d see those again!), hitting the runways and taking over street style. Make the most of yours by layering it under a summer slip dress with a pair of ankle boots, to create this stylish trans-seasonal look.

Just add: a hair spray like Redken’s Quick Tease 15 Backcombing Finishing Sprayto add both volume and texture to your hair.

3. ADD A BLAZER TO YOUR TEE & JEANS COMBO

It’s no secret the power suit came back with a vengeance this season. We’re happy to report: It’s time to revive the blazer. Throw this classic on over your t-shirt and jeans for an easy and effortless look. A change of shoes can take this look from day to night, so don’t be afraid to take your blazer out after-hours.

Just add: a scented candle like Tom Ford Oud Wood Candle. The woodsy scent is the perfect way to prepare for the cooler months and keep your wardrobe smelling fresh.

4. WHO SAID MAXI SKIRTS WERE JUST FOR SUMMER?

Is it just us, or do skirt hemlines go up in Winter time? Surely, a maxi skirt seems more practical! Well, we think so. Style your Summer maxi with a knit sweater and boots, or dress it up with a blouse, tailored blazer and heels.

Just add: A fun nail – bright colours can still be worn in Winter! This turquoise Butter London Patent Shine 10X nail polish is what we picked for our mani.

5. WEAR TIGHTS WITH YOUR SUMMER SKIRTS AND DRESSES

Keep your legs warm while wearing your favourite skirts and dresses by adding some tights or stockings. You can thank Balenciaga for making them cool again. Take your pick of sheer or opaque – we love Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s look with a nice blouse and jacket layered on top.

Just add: An Autumnal inspired lip like this Clinique High Impact Lip Colour in Red-Y To Wear.

6. OR WEAR YOUR SUMMER DRESSES OVER PANTS

Already a popular street style trend last year, Summer dresses over pants are here to stay for the time being. With shorter dresses, we love pairing a wide leg pant for some balance. Whilst a slimmer fit pant suits midi & maxi hem lines. If you’re feeling constricted in a button front dress, go for this look, like Brooke Testoni, and unbutton the bottom half.

Just add: A sweet yet soft fragrance such as the Chloé Nomade Eau de Parfum as the perfect scent to match this look.
