Is it just me, or does scrolling through Instagram these days bring on skin anxiety? Somewhere between the painstakingly contoured, strobed and baked-on hi-def selfies, our sense of beautiful, natural skin has been lost. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to look Facetuned within an inch of my life, but I would like to look a little fresher. I’d like my skin to be high-beaming minus the need for a high rotation of highlighters.

With December, and a jampacked schedule of events and shoots looming, I’m going to need some help in the dermal department, so I get Clearskincare Clinics on the line for some high tech maintenance. I’ve been a few times over the years and I find the machines to be really effective and the staff super knowledgeable. So, naturally, I was thrilled when after booking me in for my appointment, they offered to partner with us to offer our readers a killer party season deal – $99 for your choice of either IPL Skin Rejuvenation, Laser Pigmentation Removal, Meso Needling or Fractional Skin Resurfacing. Plus you’ll receive a $50 Anti Ageing Voucher with a Cosmetic Nurse to use at your next appointment. This is great value as a Fractional treatment is $199 alone, so it’s over half price. For my treatment, I head to the Mosman clinic. When I front up I have a chat with Katerina, my lovely therapist, who I remember seeing several years ago. I decide to go for IPL rejuvenation as I have a fragrance launch party to go to this evening so can’t risk any flakiness. I’m told that it’s great to give the skin an immediate boost, which only improves as the weeks go on and will be perfect for my jampacked social schedule as there’s no downtime. I was surprised to discover that we wouldn’t be zapping my pigmentation today with the IPL machine – which is how I’ve experienced it in the past. Katerina explains that Clearskincare Clinics would instead devise a treatment plan of lasers combined with lightening creams to tackle the hormonal pigmentation I suffer from (note to self to book in for that). Using IPL for rejuvenation is a little more subtle but should hopefully leave me looking like I’ve been eating greens for a week.

Katarina removes my makeup and applies a cool gloopy gel over my face then holds the handpiece over segments of my face, there are fast bursts of heat and light which aren’t as painful as they used to be when they zapped the pigment, but still give me a little start anyway. It’s over in ten minutes, which is record time, and Katarina takes off the gel and sends me off with a Copper Peptide Serum to use tomorrow along with strict instructions to stay out of the sun.

Back at home I examine my skin. There’s no doubt about it. I’m noticeably glowy. The girls in the office say that my skin looks plumper – a bit like how your eyebrows look after they’ve been plucked – all pink and juiced-up. The effects will only get better over the next couple of weeks as the collagen has been heated and will continue to regenerate. Eureka! I’m off to throw my little Bec and Bridge dress now and for once I think I might skip the foundation. After all – we all want to see more natural, beautiful-looking skin in our social media feeds (and there’s not a lot a good concealer can’t deal with). Now bring on that party.

Hi sigourney, did you find that after IPL little white pimples formed under the skin a few days later? I think it might be my skin not reacting well to the heat? Do you know how to prevent this from happening? Thank you!

Which treatments tend to leave more flakiness?

I was so excited about this offer. I rang a few clinics in Melbourne to find out what lasers and ipl machines they used and no one that I spoke to had any idea. One girl said she would find out some more information for me and I never heard back from her! I even filled out the online enquiry form and someone from head office rang me. When I mentioned the Beauticate offer, she had no idea what I was talking about and instead told me I had to buy a package to get that price. Terrible customer service. I would rather pay more money for a treatment with someone that knows what lasers they use and how to use them. Definately wouldn’t recommend
