A small team of friendly faces welcome me to the clinic and I am offered a skin tonic (turmeric, coconut water, and lemon) or their signature tea blend (lemongrass and ginger) on arrival. As I sip on my tonic, I peruse the menu which boasts everything from peels and IPL through to waxing and Kahuna Massage. Jess (my therapist) clearly knows her stuff. As she talks I notice that she is prescribing me ingredients based on seeing my skin react in real time, swapping products in and out as she sees what my skin needs, from cleansers that go the distance to anti-redness moisturisers, she has a solution for every issue. She talks me through the product and the peel, and warns me of the “shedding” that I am about to encounter in the coming days. The peel itself isn’t painful – just a little tingly and my skin absolutely soaks up the concentrated products being infused in my skin by top-of-the-range equipment. I leave the clinic feeling refreshed on the outside but also nurtured on the inside.
The next day I receive a follow up phone call to make sure I haven’t totally freaked out with the flaking of skin on my face. But, to be honest, I was expecting worse (something along the lines of my skin peeling off like a rubber mask in a scene out of a horror movie), so I am pretty happy with the minor peeling. It’s a little like getting sunburnt and at worse I feel like a beach-babe who had come back from surfing for a few days! Just remember not to have this peel if you have an important event coming up… save it for when you have downtime as people-avoidance strategies may need to be put in place.
I have every confidence that if you have a skin concern, Outshine is the place to get it addressed. This is the place to go for skin issues and expert help – but I love that they also offer a host of other beauty and wellness treatments, too. The shelves are stocked with Ultraceuticals products for every skin type, with staff that know exactly how and why to use them. Every little detail is considered – you can phone ahead and book the VIP car park to avoid the battle for spaces, or drop the girls a line when you’re low on product and they’ll post out your Ultraceuticals favourites, to save you the trip.
Finally if you can brave the post-facial glow in public then simply don your sunnies and a messy post-facial bun and head to Harvey’s or the Cru bar for a sneaky wine on your way home.
