Flaxen-haired, dreamy and deliciously quirky,  Zippora Seven is clearly having a ball. Known as Zippy to most, the Kiwi model spends her time flitting between New York, Paris and Sydney for modeling jobs and taking photos for blog. Self-titled site Zippy Seven is a filmic romp through her travels around the world, capturing moments with friends, family and her (occasionally naked) doco-maker boyfriend Terence Connors (who made this movie about Zippy).

We caught up with the ethereal beauty when she was in Sydney for the launch of Impulse, for which is face. Despite nursing a shocking cold (which saw her gulping massive spoonfuls of New Zealand Manuka Honey during our interview), she managed to turn it on for the camera and share her best natural beauty remedies and on-the-road beauty tips. And as if that wasn’t enough, Terence shot a few extra shots of her for us when the couple were home, staying in Palm Beach.

ZIPPY’S SECRET TO GLOWING SKIN? SUNSCREEN AS A HIGHLIGHTER

“My beauty style is really natural…

I wear sunscreen every day, it’s the first thing that I’ll do in the morning. I use a strong SPF 50 sunscreen as a highlighter for my face. It’s usually quite shiny or quite white.

When I’m not working I also won’t wear any make up

If I do, then I’ll just use concealer, blush and my Shu Uemura eyelash curler.  For concealer like the Touché Éclat because it was one of the first things I was ever introduced to when I first started wearing make up.

I discovered Homeoplasmine

from my boyfriend’s mum, she’s French. I use it for my lips mostly, but then when I’m travelling I like to put it everywhere. I use La Mer on my body and for my face I use Dr Alkaitis. It’s so nice and they do everything in travel size so you can take it on a plane. I love their exfoliating mask, you just put it on for five minutes and I like that it’s all edible. It’s a hippy kind of feeling. You feel like you’re from the 70’s or something.

I like to scrub my skin with frozen coffee…

and then put honey on it. You get the coffee beans ground out and put it in a little dish, then add water so it turns into a paste then freeze it. It’s especially good if you’re in a sauna as it starts melting while you exfoliate. After you’ve scrubbed you can cover yourself in honey. You come out and your skin is like a baby. It’s pretty romantic.

I swim and run a lot…

How often depends on where I am. If I’m in Australia I run every day, I like the Bondi to Bronte. Just early in the morning, for the sunrise, when there’s no people – and Bondi to Coogee if I’m feeling really good. In New York I have a trainer so I just go to Equinox Gym there. It’s great; they do a good sports massage.

I don’t really diet…

but I don’t eat a lot. I eat small portions and then don’t hold myself back from anything, just whatever feels right. I just have a small little meal and then I don’t not eat anything bad. I also drink a lot of water. My favourite thing in the world to eat is fish, but I still can’t really eat that much because of the mercury. I have an app on my phone so whenever I eat in a restaurant I type in the fish and it tells you whether it’s a good one or not. It’s called Seafood Watch, you can know if the fish is over fished or if it contains high levels of mercury.

I then apply a little bit of MAC strobe cream or La Mer face sun lotion as a highlighter. I curl my eyelashes and that’s the most I’ll do to my face. I have a few different eye creams I use after shoots with a heavy eye or a lot of makeup changes – Dr Alkitas being my favourite. Jurlique Rose mist is a lifesaver in the heat and traveling. It’s so refreshing and hydrating. In hot countries I mist it over myself in bed and stay cool all night.

I love Kevin Murphy Products

He’s such a talented man in everything he does. The Angel Washand Rinse is the best I’ve used so far on my hair and the packaging is really pretty which is important to me. Also a pink haired friend put me on to the Christophe Robin hair mask, which again I love to use after my hair’s been sizzled and teased all day.

ONE OF HER FIRST JOBS WAS WITH FRENCH VOGUE

Bruce Weber flew me to New York to shoot for French Vogue…

For one of my first shoots. I didn’t know where I was going or who he was, but I trusted my impulses and ended up leaving New Zealand after that, working in this industry. I’ve been lucky to work closely with great photographers on different personal projects, one favourite being a book with Derek Henderson, The Darkness of Noon. I’d love to make a magical fairytale story with Tim Walker, or a rad ass shoot with Juergen Teller.

I always take a camera with me for work

…because I’m always travelling. I usually shoot with film cameras, but then this is my digital camera that I love. The travel is very difficult but my friends understand that it’s a part of the job. Often times however when we do catch up it happens to be in cities we never thought we’d see each other in, which always ends up being the most fun magical time. “
