With a sunny, moisture-sapping climate, it’s no wonder Perth dwellers are avid consumers of skin treatments. Since she opened her cutting edge medical skin clinic Youth Lab in Perth in 2018, Dr Kate Jameson has seen a steady rise in the adoption of cosmetic procedures.

The demand for cosmetic procedures is steadily growing here in Perth, especially energy and laser-based procedures focused at treating pigmentation and sun damage. Here in sunny Perth we are seeing ageing skin at a higher and more severe rate, with signs including wrinkles, volume loss, skin sagging, vascular and pigmentation disorders,” explains Dr Kate Jameson. “Much of this can be attributed to our harsh climate, proximity to the equator, clear skies and our outdoor lifestyle. We have significant UV exposure which in turn is increasing our appetite for skin treatments to combat the effects of sun damage and premature ageing.”

Her second clinic in Claremont in 2020 was a runaway success (despite COVID lockdowns) and now she brings her unique expertise and flair to the Perth’s North with Youth Lab Joondalup.

Sprawling throughout a sleek sunlit space in Joondalup’s CBD, the latest Youth Lab is every bit as gorgeous as its predecessors, thanks to a stylish interior design by Nickolas Gurtler.

With hued slate walls, gold hardware, Dina Broadhurst art, and the clinic’s statement reception desk, fashioned from polished Venetian plaster with Arabescato Vagli marble, there’s no question you’re in for a luxurious experience when you arrive.

In the waiting area, I nestle into a curved bouclé chair and fill out my info on an ipad. There’s barely time to peruse the Slim Aarons coffee table books before I’m whisked into a treatment room by my therapist Corina.

All first-timers begin with a full consult including photographs and a skincare plan, one of the most valuable aspects of a clinical skin treatment: expert skincare supervision and a treatments plan of attack.

Youth Lab already has my data so I relax straight onto the bed. Corina expertly assesses my skin before explaining that today’s Advanced Facial is an indulgent and pampering yet results driven affair. Since I’m already on some pretty major actives, she tweaks the exfoliation and uses an enzyme rather than a peel. She uses a sonophoresis machine to help the mesoesthetic products penetrate more deeply and does some expert massage that almost lulls me off to sleep.

Then it’s time to bliss out under the LED. At Youth Lab they use the Lutronic Healite which is an 830 nanometre yellow light that stimulates collagen and the healing function in the skin. It feels like lying in the sun but with a host of benefits and zero sun damage. Corina tells me that the most popular treatment at Youth Lab is the Hydrafacial and a great starting point for anyone wanting to get serious about their skin.

And with that, it’s a quick application of sunscreen and moisturizer and I’m unveiled as a Brand. New. Woman. My skin is all dewy and sparkly and I feel 100% better than when I walked in. I vow to come back soon so I can try a few more of the fabulous lasers on offer at Youth Lab: a veritable wonderland of good skin trickery.
