It’s a daunting prospect to go all in for the hair chop. Sure, it might seem like it’s the easy way out effort wise, but a short ‘do can take more styling thought than longer tresses (mostly because a go-to high pony is a bit out of the question). However, if you’ve gone the crop, don’t freak out… we have scoured Instagram for the best short hair video tutorials for easy styling tips and tricks that reach beyond a flick and hope to the hair gods a gust of wind doesn’t undo you…
THE LOOK: BRAIDED HEADBAND
Pixie by hair, pixie by nature – Sarah calls herself ‘mermaid at heart, but a pixie in real life’ – she’s got the most amazing, achievable tutorials for styling short, undercut hair. Once the look of fourth grade boys only, the undercut has had a feminine iteration that is being embraced by girls who want fuss-free statement hair. Sarah takes requests for styles and the braided hairband was one of her most popular asks. It’s quick, easy and can be allocated to anything from Pilates to meeting to lunch date.
THE LOOK: STAY SMOOTH
This Swiss-based beauty is no coward when it comes to her crop…. Pink hair, icy white, shaved pixie… she’s happy to try it all, and share her styling. Her captions are in French, so we pulled our favourite style and (thank you Google translate…) have the English version: “Finally the #pixietutorial of the day is there 🎉🎉🎉 I often use this @babyliss_switzerland which gives clear volume. And when I do not have the motivation to spend … 10mins to smooth my hair. I do this and it makes it easier for smoothing the next day”.
THE LOOK: SHORT WAVE
Not only do we love her blue colour, but she’s also a gun at bob/lob hair tutorials (it’s not all about the pixie!). A stylist at Orlando’s Atelier Hair Salon, she’s no rookie in the hair game. She also makes barrel curls cool again. This is perfect when you have a little more time on your hands and looking for something a bit more ‘done’ than a wash and wear wave we’ve come to rely on with the easy peasy lob.
THE LOOK: CROPPED TOP KNOT
We love this! Mostly, because we’d naturally assumed it was a wave goodbye to the top knot after a big chop. Evidently, not so. This chic icy blonde beauty is a big fan of volume and breaking some short hair rules, like achieving great up ‘dos. Here, she schools us on the messy high bun that doesn’t scale like a one dollar coin resting atop a mountain.
