Here’s Erika Heynatz as you probably haven’t seen her lately. The mum-of-one to son Charlie, and Lina Lamont in the musical stage play Singin' in the Rain, played model to makeup extraordinaire Rae Morris for her book Express Makeup. We think this stunning faux foil eye is the perfect party makeup statement, so we begged Rae for her best tips to nailing the look and making the ultimate entrance.

STEP 1: SKIN PREP AND EYES

Before applying cream foundation prep your skin with primer. Laura Mercier’s Radiance Primer contains pigments, which will add some extra glow to your skin.  Brush the primer over your eyelids as this will help with your eye shadow’s staying power.

To create the eyes you’ll need a blending brush and a highly pigmented gold shadow. The MAC 217 blending brush is a great option as it has densely packed fibres which pick up the most amount of colour. Rae suggests wetting your brush before applying the shadow as this will create a block, dense colour on your lid. For a gold foil eyeshadow try Stila Magnificant Metals Foil Finish Eyeshadow in Metallic Gilded Gold or M.A.C Pigment in Melon. Rae suggests applying the same colour to your cheekbones to give you a sun kissed glow – just blend it out so it doesn’t look too intense.

To finish the eyelids Rae says, “take a bronze kohl pencil and smudge along your top eyelash lines. Use an angled brush to slightly extend the line outwards”. Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner is great for party season as it’s waterproof and won’t end up doing a disappearing act halfway through the fireworks.

STEP 2: LINER, LASHES AND LIPS

“Apply a creamy white pencil to the inner rims of your eyes,” says Rae. This opens and brightens the eyes even more. Rimmel Soft Kohl Pencil in Pure White is easy to apply and smooth around the most sensitive part of your eye.

“Curl your lashes, then apply lots of mascara to your top lashes only,” says Rae. We love Diorshow Iconic Waterproof High Definition Curler Macara as it also helps create a curled effect on your lashes – perfect in the pre-party rush.

“Apply a rose-tinted cream blush to your lips and cheeks,” finishes Rae. The By Terry Blush Glace in Frozen Petal is an awesome cream blush that gives you a beautiful dewy finish and a natural just-been-jogging look. The best bit? It can also be applied to your lips, all you need to do is finish with you favourite gloss and you’re dance-floor ready.

Happy new year!

What liquid liner has the lasting power to stay on top of the glittery shadow?
