I love a good tech innovation as much as the next person. From robot vacuums to smart fridges, there's no denying that we're living in the future. But let's be real, not all of these innovations are worth the hype – or cost. (I'm looking at you, bluetooth-enabled toaster.) However, one at-home device that has caught my attention and has been proving to be a game-changer in the beauty industry are LED Masks. But starting at $380, they don’t come cheap. Are they really worth it? Well when you consider salon LED treatments costing between $40 and $80 per treatment I’m going to let you know my thoughts on if its a savvy investment or not.

The good news is that I also have a discount code for you that, combined with the Cost Per Wear concept I’ll explain will more than justify a little retail therapy.

I’ve spent the last month diligently testing out the CurrentBody LED Face Mask. Not only does this one have a flexible design that ensures the maximum amount of light hits the lower layers of your skin, it’s also been seen on the faces of A-listers like Kate Hudson before the 2021 Met Gala, the cast of And Just Like That…. (the Sex and the City reboot) and Lily Collins in the opening scene of Emily In Paris Season 3. So, safe to say it’s making waves in the industry.

CurrentBody is a UK-based company that specializes in innovative beauty and wellness devices that are safe, effective, and easy to use at home. Their product range includes everything from anti-aging devices to hair removal gadgets. But their most popular product by far is the brand’s LED mask.

So, how does the LED Light therapy mask work? It uses a technology that combines red and near infra-red light that penetrates the skin at different depths, stimulating cell growth and repair. The light helps to boost collagen production, reduce inflammation, and improve skin texture.

I’ll admit, when I first saw these masks I found them a little Hannibal Lecter for my liking. But once I put one on, the experience of bathing in a warm glow of light (that actually benefits your skin) had me at hello.

For starters, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was. Once you strap it on and kick back, things get profoundly relaxing. You can wear it while you do stuff but I like to meditate when I use it and take a little Time Out. The red light behind your eyelids actually helps lull you further into a meditative state. It’s kind of like sunbathing but with the OPPOSITE effect. Yep, using LED masks actually help reverse the damage of the sun. How cool is that?

I used the mask for 10 minutes a day, most days. And after four weeks I’ve noticed a significant uptick in glow. I’m not so bothered by the pigment on my cheeks and my skin feels bouncier and firmer. And I’m not the only one. The CurrentBody LED Face Mask has received rave reviews from customers all over the world. It’s an investment in your skincare routine that pays off in spades.

I also really like the little skincare routine that CurrentBody suggest using with their mask. After washing and drying your face you apply a light layer of CurrentBody Skin Green Tea Serum followed by the CurrentBody Skin Hydrogel Mask. Then you can fit your LED Light Therapy Device over the Hydrogel mask. Turn the mask on & leave on the skin for 10 minutes. I love that the device automatically turns off when treatment is completed (this is how I know my meditation time is over. Although sometimes, when I have time, I click the button for another 10 minutes). Next up you gently rub in any excess serum into the skin, then you can finish off by applying a few drops of the CurrentBody Skin Hyaluronic Acid Serum and moisturizer or SPF. After this sequence, my skin has never been happier.

So back to whether it’s worth the investment…

For any self-respecting skincare enthusiast, investing in a quality LED light therapy mask can be a smarter choice than continually forking out for facials and cosmetic treatments. We know that LED light therapy has been shown to have numerous benefits for the skin and cells, including improving skin texture and tone, reducing the appearance of fine lines and dialling up that all important glow. By consistently stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, (the two key proteins that help keep skin looking firm, plump, and smooth) you are improving your skin progressively, which can have a cumulative effect.

It’s also much more convenient when we can do our beauty treatments at home, retro-fitting your skincare routine around your schedule. No need to take time out of your day to drive to the salon, find and pay for a parking space and blah, blah, blah. Who really has that kind of time?

If you need any more convincing that these masks are worth your hard earned dollar, I always like to think about these big ticket items in terms of CPW (Cost Per Wear). If you use your mask four times a week for a year, the cost per day would only be around $1.36. As for that discount code? The code BEAUTICATE will discount the CurrentBody LED range by 15%. You’ll also cut down on the skincare you need to purchase, plus, the mask can be used over and over again, making it a more eco-friendly and sustainable option. Tick, tick and big fat tick!
