From break-ups and make-ups to the downright kinky shake-ups, Carrie Bradshaw and her loyal three grappled with just about every issue a modern, liberal, career-minded woman in her thirties could grapple with – all with a cosmopolitan firmly in hand and a refreshingly current head of hair. Between our four favourite small screen heroines, few beauty rules of thumb have stood the test of time quite like these gems…
“I will never be the girl with the perfect hair who can wear white and not spill on it.” – Carrie Bradshaw.
CHARLOTTE ROCKS THE ALICE BAND
1. There is a headband for every occasion, upper East Side and beyond.
Let it be known, Charlotte York was working the headband long before Blair Waldorf could crawl, so credit where credit’s due Ms. York. Sporting a Chanel belt as a headband and proving polished doesn’t necessarily mean ‘preppy’ or ‘prim.’
CARRIE DID OMBRE BEFORE IT WAS A THING
2. When in doubt, grow it out.
One could argue that Carrie and her wild roots pioneered the now viral trend, which has since seen salon-goers catch the balayage (or Balliage depending who you ask) bug the world over. From Saint-Germain to Fifth Avenue. Balayage according to Bradshaw, imperfectly perfect.
SAMANTHA KNEW THE IMPORTANCE OF HAIR IN THE GAME OF SEDUCTION
3. Men may come and go but your mane is forever – so avoid getting stuck in a style rut.
While man-friends were a dime a dozen, one thing continues to rein true nothing prompts change quite like a fresh haircut, colour or style. Out with the old, in with the new.
CARRIE DOES TWENTIES BETTER THAN A FLAPPER
4. A retro do will never cease to sizzle.
When faced with an abundance of pre-first date decisions, revert back and consider opting for a sleek pin curl and bold red lip. Striking, versatile and bound to tie in with the majority of your wardrobe.
A TOP KNOT KEEPS ALL THE FOCUS ON YOUR FASHION
5. Top Knots and high-fashion go together like peanut butter and jam.
From your standard post-work out knot to a sleeker statement up-do, Carrie rocked them all with perfect precision. The top-knot carried Carrie through her on-again off-again relationship woes, many a shopping spree and even made a cameo at the Big wedding that never was. We won’t forget you, knot.
MIRANDA SHOWED MANY SHADES OF RED
6. A statement colour is a sure fire way to stand out, regardless of the oh-so-chic company you keep.
Miranda may have not been as daring on the wardrobe front, but her hair evolution is something to be admired. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different colour notes if you do decided to go red. The perfect colour won’t happen over night.
CHARLOTTE CONSIDERS DOING A VODKA RINSE
7. If your hair is shiny and polished, everything else in your life will eventually fall into place. Promise.
Charlotte may not have had very attainable upper East Side Princess priorities, but one thing she undoubtedly did achieve was a shiny head of hair – similar to that of the Duchess of Cambridge. A balanced diet rich in fish oils and super-foods like lentils and spinach, will keep your tresses shiny from the inside out. And the occasional cosmo won’t hurt, either.

LOVE a great top knot!!
Amanda
Haha cute!!
Rachel
Charlotte has the most timeless, classy style. As for Carrie, I loved her hair short and curly. It was very flattering on her strong facial features and it helped shorten her otherwise long face.
