The One Hairstyle Everyone Wants Right Now

Everywhere we look, the cool kids are losing their length (hair, that is). And the short cut of the moment is what the hair clique have dubbed ‘the shag’. Taylor Swift did it, Anja Rubik rocks it, even Miranda Kerr has gone for a sleeker version. The great thing is that it works for most hair textures, requires minimal styling and can be ‘done’ in minutes.

WHAT IS IT AND WILL IT SUIT ME?

Straight from the seventies, the shag is all about rough, imperfect texture (think Stevie Knicks). The beauty of this look is that it works with varying lengths- from medium to short (if you’re game). Curlier hair should keep it longer (think to your shoulders) to avoid an afro, whereas straighter types can afford to loose the length.

WHAT TO ASK YOUR HAIR STYLIST FOR:

Ask your hairdresser for textured layers with messy ends, and if you’re taking a leaf out of Karlie or Taylor’s book, ask for piecey bangs as well as the face framing layers. If you’re hair is quite thick, ask your stylist to take out a little bit of the bulk.

HOW TO STYLE:

As far as styling, less is certainly more (music to our ears). If your tresses are on the finer side or lack texture, work through a texturizing spray like Shu Uemera Texture Wave Dry Workable Spray.
