Let’s face it – everyone knows that winter fashion is infinitely better (and more fun) than its summer counterpart. While we are partial to a chic swimsuit or linen summer dress, cosy knitwear and striking statement coats will always reign. So, next time you feel like the only one not enjoying the European summer, here are a few reasons to remind you why you should be enjoying winter just a little bit more...

THE OUTERWEAR OPPORTUNITIES

Those of us living in Australia will know that we are blessed with beautiful warm weather, for a reasonably large portion of the year. On the flip side, we have a much smaller window to wear fabulous coats so we have to embrace them while we can. Whether you’re into a classic silhouette made from wool, a powerful patent trench, or a flamboyant faux fur coat, outerwear can complete a look. Or, if you’re like us – self-confessed coat fetishists – it can be the starting point that the rest of your outfit is planned around. This winter we are loving this Country Road coat in the perfect shade of pastel pink. Trust us, once you put it on, you’ll be praying winter never ends.

NO ONE WILL NOTICE HOW BADLY YOU NEED A PEDICURE

Raise your hand if you’re about two months overdue for a pedicure. Guilty? Thought so. You’re in luck, because with winter comes closed-toe shoes, ready to keep your secret safe whilst also helping you maintain toasty toes. Our go to this season is definitely the sock boot – for the obvious reason that it’s literally like stepping out in your socks (hello, comfort). The Balenciaga Knife Spandex Sock Boots are a must-have. In several colourways, designer Demna Gvasalia introduced the sock boot trend at Vetements and Balenciaga, making it one of the most coveted footwear styles of the moment.

PRACTICALITY AND STYLE CAN BE FRIENDS

You probably never thought these two worlds would ever collide, but it is possible to maintain warmth and comfort whilst looking effortlessly chic – all with the help of knitwear. Pick the hue for you, rug up in a chunky turtleneck, throw on a super soft cashmere cardigan, or layer a thinner knit underneath a coat or dress. This Seed knitted turtleneck is a great staple to have in your wardrobe for many winters to come.

SWEAT LESS AND EMBRACE THE VARIETY OF TEXTILES

The heat lends itself to a limited array of fabrics that are comfortable to wear without developing pools of sweat. Come winter, we have choices like cashmere, corduroy, leather, shearling, suede, velvet and more. We’re pretty smitten with these Manning Cartell red velvet pants (did we mention there is a matching blazer?). Go full pant suit with heels or dress it down with a knit, leather jacket and some ankle boots.

LAYERS, LAYERS AND MORE LAYERS

What do tiramisu and the best part of winter fashion have in common? Layers! Cover up any extra winter weight (we’ll totally justify any and all extra desserts) and stay snug by layering your outfits. This Topshop Boutique dress is a great layering piece – style a turtleneck underneath it with stockings, wear it over a crop kick-flare jean, belt it at the waist, or even add a shirt underneath. The creative choices are endless, really. Now, do you still wish you were in Europe for summer?
