Arriving on our nightly TV screens over ten years ago, you could say Jodi Anasta has grown up literally in front of our eyes. At just 20 she debuted on Home and Away as Martha MacKenzie (a much-loved, albeit cursed, character of the long-running soap), and in the 12 years since has evolved from young up-and-comer to media darling, mother-of-one to Aleeia (3) and, now, relishing in her latest acting role as rebellious Elly Conway in Neighbours. Rising above media storms at every step up, she's also brand ambassador for Voodoo Hosiery - and with legs for days, it's the perfect pairing. Along with her passion for acting, fashion and being a mum, she's also a bit of a beauty addict... cue our ears pricking. So, we went to visit Jodi at her Eastern Suburbs home (beautifully decked out by Pollon Flowers) to chat about her love of makeup (along with good pal Max May who worked his magic on her on the day), how beauty has changed with motherhood and the one fragrance she's vowed to be her forever scent...

“Right now, being part of Neighbours is honestly such an incredible time for me.

I love everything about this job, from the cast crew and production to my character herself. Playing Elly Conway has its constant challenges and I love the complexity of her nature/character & the story lines they give me.

Recently I asked an elderly friend how their day was and they replied ‘Good day, bad day, it’s all the same right?’  I LOVE that outlook on life.

How we see situations and how we react to them; how we make the bad days good and how we keep a positive outlook always, no matter whether it’s a good day or a bad one. Knowing your face and what parts you should emphasise. Then educating yourself on how to use the right products in the right places. It’s all perspective.

Being a working mum has made my beauty routine rather fast…

…I’ve gone through stages in the past where I loved using every different product under the sun. But now time is such a priority, I have my key products I use religiously and they’re amazing. I think as you get older you also invest in skincare and make sure you’re using the right products.

I’d love to say less is more but I LOVE make up.

I love trying different looks pending what I’m wearing. I also love lashes but getting them right is often an art in itself. For make up I start with a Becca Backlight Priming Filter, it’s heaven. Then, I use MAC Face and Body or Armani Foundation followed by MAC concealer. I love the famous Laguna Bronzer by NARS and I live by my fave mascara in the world – Diorshow in waterproof black (it makes my lashes look almost fake). I lightly fill in my brows, too. Finally my fave lip colour is a MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil in It’s Really Me, then my Mecca Cosmetica lip gloss in a pinky colour. That’s it for my daily look, but if I’m heading out I’ll add a cheek or a lip colour, or occasionally a smoky eye. I’m obsessed with Nars, Mac, Armani, Charlotte Tilbury, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Hour Glass & a good old trusty paw paw.

My life fragrance is Dominique Ropion Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle.

I’ve always been a scent person – constantly changing and mixing it up however with this one I feel like I’ve found THE scent I’ll wear forever.

I love music. Over the years it’s helped me through tough times & it really inspires me.

I also love reading, I’m currently reading a book called The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. And I need my mags, like Vogue, Harper’s BAZAAR and Rush. They’re all forms of creativity and escape from learning lines or life’s hectic schedule. If I had it my way I’d walk for an hour a day but usually I get in 45 minutes to an hour walk a week and interval training occasionally, I also do a series of floor exercises. It’s all very simple stuff.

I’ve recently cut back on sugar and cakes.

I’ve grown up eating them and I love to bake so it’s been a hard transition however a healthier one. I think, for me, it’s about small snacks frequently and making sure I get all the right food groups into my day. Then I also crave sugar less. I’m pretty healthy with food. I eat well, I eat a lot and I mix it up so I can indulge if I want. I’m also obsessed with Lola Berry at the moment so Aleeia and I pick a different recipe most weekends and have some fun in the kitchen.

I’m excited about being a Voodoo  style muse…

…this Autumn/Winter as I’ve always weaved leggings into my winter wardrobe, especially now that I’m living in Melbourne. All the It girls here and overseas are doing the statement leggings so it is absolutely a trend to keep your eye on. I like to team them with shirts and skirts with boots and a favourite scarf.”

I love Dior’s waterproof mascara too, but it is such a pain to get off. Any recommendations for a good, oil-free remover?

Holding a cotton pad soaked in remover to the eye for twenty seconds is key. Try Bioderma Sensibio H2O – it’s an oil-free micellar water.
