Blogger, DJ, model and Brit-centric belle of the London fashion scene, Bip Ling has lured almost two million viewers to her kooky blog. When she’s not starring in Louis Vuitton Campaigns or working the front row at fashion week she’s in her studio blogging GIFS: turning selfies into animated art. It isn’t any wonder- Bip’s practically art aristocracy, with two parents who are prominent in the art scene (Dad’s a fashion illustration gallery owner, Mum’s an artist/designer) and encourage her every artistic move. Bip’s quirky, expressive style doesn’t stop at fashion…she pushes the beauty boundaries too with an effortless approach to creative makeup.

I love to experiment with makeup

and play around with colours but I think looking natural is beautiful. I rarely wear foundation- just concealer. When makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge did my makeup she taught me that I don’t need foundation so I gave it up and haven’t used it since. I’m lucky to come from an Indian family with strong female role models – my mother and grandmother always encouraged me to focus on the important things – to be happy, be gracious, to smile…and have fun!

I used to be a tomboy…

who wore shorts and shirts all the time. Now I’m the complete opposite. It was after I took a foundation course at Central St Martin’s University of Arts that I started blogging about my friends and the outfits I wore. I had no idea what I wanted to do, I wanted to do everything!  I always knew I would end up in a creative field because I love art and design. My blog started off as a sort of scrapbook and a way for me to express myself but I never intentionally set out for it to become what it has turned into. Now everyday is different and I spend my time going from modelling, DJing, blogging, vlogging and creating content for my YouTube channel. Now I would describe my style as ‘British Museum Chic’ and prefer wearing clothes from new designers

KIEHL'S SKINCARE FORMS THE BASIS OF BIP'S BEAUTY ROUTINE

I like to look after my skin

My mother always taught me to tone the skin before cleansing because it keeps skin pimple free. I always use Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate before I sleep and I apply it whenever I fly because it’s really hydrating. During the day I use their Rose Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream. I’ve been obsessed with Kiehl’s since I started using it because my skin has been so much better since. All the products really work, without being oily or greasy.  When I wash my face, I always rinse with cold water. In fact I am obsessed with cold rinsing in the shower and I even use it in the bath. It makes my skin feel tight and my hair glossy –it also makes my hair get less knotty during the day.

When it comes to my hair…

I’m quite low maintenance. I visit Paul Edmonds in London regularly for a hair treatment and blow dry. At home I use Kiehl’s shampoo and conditioner and rub Moroccan oil through it everyday except when I go in the sun….oil in the sun can be so damaging to hair but used daily it makes it feel like silk.

BIP PREFERS TO DO HER OWN MAKEUP WHEN GOING TO EVENTS

I feel at my most beautiful when…

I’m fulfilled and that can depend on what I’m working on. A little spray tan from celebrity tanner, Jules Von Heptonstall at St Tropez helps too. I pick up tips from makeup artists here and there but actually I prefer doing my own makeup – I know my face really well and what suits it. I used to have professional makeup done for events but now I mostly do it myself. I like my makeup to look a little undone, less precious. I always think it looks best when it’s been on all night and my skin is a little shiny. When I go out I don’t really take much makeup with me or touch it up. In my bag you’ll find just a Mac concealer and a lip-gloss. I LOVE Dior lip-gloss.

I use really quick makeup techniques

Lots of YSL black liquid eyeliner is key and sometimes I’ll use Dior mascara on my lashes and then apply it on my eyebrows too! I use my fingers to apply everything from lipstick, concealer and even eye shadow. Dolce and Gabbana blusher is my favourite for cheeks and I like a bit of CK One Colour Skin Illuminator across the cheekbones for a glow. Fragrance is also really important. I wear Dior Ambre Nuit. It reminds me of my friend I used to live with in New York, Aussie model Bambi – she wears it too. I like my big Indian eyes (they run in the family!) I’ve been playing around a lot with the CK one Colour Powder Eye Shadows at the moment, using all sorts of intense, bright colours. They do so many colours and no other eye shadow I’ve tried is as pigmented – they really ‘stick’ to the lid.

I’m really happy when…

I’m at home with my family and my dog on a Sunday. I love to cook with my mother and make fresh juices from cucumber, celery, mint, lemon and ginger. Eating healthily is important to me and I feel my best when I’m eating well. My favourite treats are Bounce balls. I like to run in the park and do regular yoga. Then I do sessions with my trainer, Roger Frampton at Remodel Me.
