Sarina Zoe was one of the first makeup artists to shoot with Beauticate – and she later penned some beauty and health stories for us, proving she wielded many creative powers not limited to a makeup brush. So, it’s with much pride, that we watch her launch her own digital venture this week – Pravayama – a site dedicated to the modern yoga lifestyle and all that inspires it.

We caught up with the former model and resolute yogi, to get her best beauty buys (she worked at Mecca for years so she’s tried it ALL), the active wear she swears by and how exactly she lives, eats and breathes the zen-wisdom she’s now imparting via her new site.

“Creating Pravayama has been a dream.

My passion for yoga has driven it, while my background in communications and time as a commercial model and makeup artist have given me the experience to make it happen. I also recently completed my 200hr teacher qualification which has inspired an even greater passion for living a modern yoga lifestyle.

SARINA’S INDUSTRY TRAINING HAS LED HER TO LAUNCH HER OWN BABY
SHE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT FOLLOWING A HOLISTIC LIFESTYLE YET ENJOYING BEAUTIFUL THINGS

I feel energised meeting like-minded people who embody [the site’s] concept.

Being spiritually connected and enjoying nice things need not be mutually exclusive. As humans we are naturally drawn to beautiful things, whether it’s a delicate flower or a striking shade of lipstick or a beautifully crafted bag. Often so much passion is poured into the design and making process of these things, it’s hard not to appreciate that. It’s all about having a conscious approach, getting genuine enjoyment from things, without letting them define who we are.

My hair is pretty low maintenance.

I don’t colour it, but I do indulge in a good chop with my hairdresser Kirby who just cuts intuitively every time. If I style it, I’ll work with the messy look as it’s naturally wavy. The GHD Curve tongis pretty amazing. If I use product it’s a spritz of Redken Diamond Oil for added shine and Bumble and bumble do the best hairspray, I can even restyle over it

SARINA PREFERS A LAID BACK APPROACH TO HAIR CARE; OPTING FOR EASY CUTS AND SIMPLE STYLING.
MONOCHROME BEAUTY AT ITS BEST.

When it comes to skincare I have a full-on regime with all sorts of lotions and potions.

I love ChantecailleOmoroviczaSunday Riley, and Mecca for delicious body products. One of my all-time favourite cleansers is the Edible Beauty Cleansing Milk, no other milk gets makeup off like it. I’m minimalist with day-to-day makeup but one thing I can’t be without is the Mecca Lip de Luscious, it goes everywhere with me and is also in my kit. As a makeup artist I have an insane amount of products, and I adore the colours and textures of makeup. It never ceases to excite me the way different products behave and perform on models’ and clients’ skin. NarsChanel andCharlotte Tilbury are my go-tos for luxe, high-performing makeup.

I feel most beautiful are when I’m on holiday…

…when I’ve forgotten to look in the mirror because I’m so happy and relaxed and just enjoying the atmosphere and company all around me.  I also feel amazing when I’ve been looking after myself from the inside out, meditating and nourishing my body with delicious things from Orchard Street and juices from Cali Press  – or after an awe-inspiring yoga class. I feel invigorated, connected and so alive.

SARINA’S A FAN OF NOURISHING HER INSIDES FOR OUTER BEAUTY
SHE’S A SELF-CONFESSED ACTIVE-WEAR LOVER – IN AND OUT OF THE YOGA STUDIO.

My style is very simple, I go for classic, quality pieces that last.

I love Jac + Jack for fine knits and have a vast collection of shirts, and Paige,Goldsign and Rag & Bone do great denim. Since I do lots of yoga I’m often in activewear… and I might even be guilty of throwing on my latest yoga pants to grab some groceries! I loveOlympia ActiveThe UpsideBlue Life Fitand Adidas by Stella McCartney. Then there’s exciting eco-friendly and philanthropic activewear labels likeUnder The Same Sun and Stay and Play

I have a few favourite makeup tricks and techniques.

I use Kevyn Aucoin Ash Blonde eyebrow pencil to build fullness in my brows without making them darker. And I’ve just come back from London so I boughtCharlotte’s Magic Cream which is a fantastic base for all foundations and herClassic Eye Pencil is perfect for a soft focus fuss-free wing at the outer corners. I love to use a taupe eyeshadow such as Blondie from Nars or Ombre from Surratt in the socket on almost every look I do on myself and others as it adds that bit of polish to a barely-there look and it also diffuses the edges of a smoky eye.

SHE IS A FAN OF AN OLFACTORY UNWIND AFTER A LONG DAY.

Yoga always puts me in a good mood and keeps me grounded.

When I’m in the habit of meditating each morning I feel on top of the world. I love simple rituals to unwind, like lighting sandalwood incense and drinking calming Vata tea which Jacqui Lewis from The Broad Place kindly gave me when I interviewed her for The Grace Tales. Then I might light a candle and listen to some Deva Premal – bliss!

I try to get to LiteLuxe in Double Bay at least once a week for a good boost of light therapy.

It literally heals any breakout about three times faster and helps to energise my skin. It’s also a really enjoyable and relaxing fifteen minutes in a beautiful intimate space. My diet is very healthy about 90 per cent of the time, simply because my body craves the things that make it feel good. Lots of raw food, lots of fresh seafood and lots of garlic! Good quality chocolate is one of my favourite treats. I love the rose flavoured Pana chocolate and Loco Love chocolates are simply heaven.”

I know so many people who swear by yoga like Sarina and would love to give it a try, but I’m not very athletic or flexible at my age. Is there a certain type of yoga you would recommend for beginners like me?

Sarina is such a natural beauty who integrates all of her passions into creating a life she loves. She is an inspiration who is leading by example. I’m looking forward to seeing where this journey with http://www.pravayama.com takes her.

Hi Rose, yoga is for everyone no matter what your ability or fitness level is. I would suggest starting off with slow flow, yin and restorative classes then once you are feeling more confident you could try a faster flow class like vinyasa. Good yoga studios will offer a range of classes. Wishing you all the best xx
