Nestling in amongst bush and native trees in the rugged Alpine forests in Tasmania’s Highlands, the Waldheim Spa is part of the Cradle Mountain Lodge hotel complex and sits at the edge of Lake St Clair national Park.  This Spa has six treatment rooms boasting sensational views of the tall King Billy Pines and the Pencil Pine River – thanks to its large and roomy glass windows.

The Spa Sanctuary is available for private bookings, and includes a sauna, steam room, relaxation beds and both a hydrotherapy and cold plunge pools. Rather minimalist-looking, the setting is all white walls, light wood and glass and has been designed to reflect the colours of nature’s growth outside. The lodges are stone and timber with cosy roaring open fires – perfect for relaxing in front of with a drink after a long day of walking.

If you choose to book the Spa Sanctuary with a partner or friend ($130 for 60 minutes) then we recommend adding in the upgrade ($270 for 75 mins) because then you’ll find a member of staff arriving with a bottle of sparkling wine and plate of chocolate covered strawberries. A happy indulgence indeed and well worth the extra money since when is the next time you plan to be back here?

Treatments at the Waldheim Spa are all carried out with a choice of Elemis or natural Australian Sodashi products. But the real plus is the hot and cold water therapies on offer. This ancient form of circulation-boosting treatment is included in both the ‘muscle melting’ Waldheim Signature aromatic bath and the refreshing Blue Gum Eucalyptus Bath.
