Rebecca Judd is the ultimate multi-tasker. The immaculately groomed mum not only updates her popular blog, Rebecca Judd Loves, several times a week, she also hosts travel program Postcards and presents the weekend weather on Nine News Melbourne. The glamorous media star, who started her career in modelling before progressing into speech pathology, is also the co-founder of stylish new beauty school Beauty EDU and started cool sportswear line, Jaggad, with hubby, AFL star Chris Judd. Phew! Talk about irons in fires.
We caught up with Bec in her gorgeous Melbourne home that she shares with Chris and their children Oscar (3) and Billie (1), where she revealed what she’s learnt about beauty through modelling, and the essential products that make the cut in her demanding schedule.
BEC RELAXES IN THE ROW CHAIR BY FRTIZ HANSEN
They have an office in Perth and they said to me, ‘Finish school, get your teeth fixed and then after that go and work.’ So I finished high school, moved overseas and did the Asian circuit, living everywhere: Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong – which is the best place to go visit, but so crowded. When I was living in Hong Kong, most of my jobs were in China. Each day I would come home late at night after working all day in China to receive a fax saying I was going back the following morning for another job. I’d wake up at six, catch the train and go through China by myself. I grew up pretty fast, but Vivien’s and Models International (my HK agency) would look after me when I’d go over there.
I got into beauty through modelling
I learned about the transformative effect makeup had, and really paid attention to technique and products and always asked a ton of questions. It was through modelling that I just learned how to do things. I wasn’t really into beauty growing up; my mum’s attitude towards it was very basic. Just a good old Nivea moisturiser and some mascara. I actually never do my nails, it’s too much maintenance. As soon as I had Oscar I don’t think I’ve had my nails professionally done since. I figure that a nicely groomed natural nail looks better than chipped polish, and I’ll chip it within an hour of getting it done, no matter how long I’ve left it to dry!
THE MEDIA STAR WASN'T ALWAYS A BEAUTY GURU.
BEC'S CHOICE OF TANNER IS J.BRONZE AND ECOTAN
I use an organic spray tan…
from Spray Aus for special events, they’re huge in Melbourne and they come to you and set the tent up in the shower. As it’s mostly organic ingredients it’s really good if you’re pregnant. Otherwise if I’m doing it myself I use J.Bronze tanner with a mitt. It’s so good, you just put one coat on and you’re done. I used to use St.Tropez but I’d need to reapply four times, I just want one go- I’m busy! And I use Ecotan invisible tan on my face, I like it because it’s more gradual.
I use to wear a lot of fragrance…
back in the day when I worked for Trimex. I was the Thierry Mugler Angel Fragrance girl all throughout Uni, so I just kind of got over wearing perfume. It’s not very easy to stand there for hours on end in clouds of fragrance, breathing it all in, I’m actually really over it. I just have one that I wear now on special occasions, Chloe, that my sister gave to me. But I barely wear it.

THE TV PRESENTER REACHES FOR SKINCARE THAT DOESN'T CONTAIN CHEMICALS.
I love Aspect for skincare
I’m into active skincare but with no chemicals in it. I’m using a lot of Aspect but also some Synergie and Epicure, they’re really good. I’ve also just started using The Skincare Company and they’re fantastic! They’re made in Australia, cruelty-free and have heaps of active ingredients and no nasties in it.
My wedding dress is on display at J’aton
They’ve taken it all around the world with them when they’ve gone to see their clients, but when it comes back it’s completely trashed. It’s in their showroom and the bottom of it is ripped. I go in there quite a bit so I see it and I’m like ‘Oh my god! I can’t look at it.’ It was my daughters birthday a couple of months ago and they gave her a completely over-the-top dollhouse, and I could see tulle inside. Billie opened it up and there was my dress! They had made a replica of my dress on the doll that I could keep. It’s all boned and corseted. So I’m holding on to it now until Billie is old enough to have it in her room.
J'ATON MADE SURE BEC WOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER HER WEDDING GOWN, CREATING A MINIATURE REPLICA.
THE MODEL'S WARDROBE WAS HOME TO CLASSIC, BEAUTIFULLY TAILORED PIECES LIKE THIS BALMAIN STATEMENT JACKET.
My day time style is mainly high quality, neutral pieces
I’ll often wear a black Helmut Lang legging, a plain black or white tee and a statement, beautifully tailored, black jacket like this Balmain one or an Ellery. In summer, I swap the leather leggings for leather shorts. For events or red carpet I am quite the opposite- you will NEVER see me in black and I prefer to inject pops of colour and take risks with styles and silhouettes. I mainly shop online as I’m too busy to hit the shops- My Theresa, David Jones, Netaporter or designer’s websites. My favourite shoe shop is Miss Louise on Collins St. Although they are expensive I find it so worth spending money on higher quality shoes which last forever (almost) and are comfortable rather than cheaper ones which make my feet sore, smell toxic and last one season.
I became involved with Beauty EDU…
because I was asked to by my friends Rachael and Ryan Trainor. Ryan is an education entrepreneur. He specialises in creating schools, and he was developing a beauty school but needed someone with a bit of a beauty background to push the beauty side of it and to consult on the curriculum in terms of which products we use, who we’re going to use to teach master classes and what subjects we are going to cover. That is my specialty and I have a wealth of knowledge in this industry and so I was invited to co-found Beauty EDU to consult on those types of things.

Beauty EDU feels more like a spa than a school
As soon as you walk in you think ‘wow, this is not a school!’ The interiors by Techne Architects are amazing. It feels like an urban day spa. And every educator is current, and working in the industry, so that’s great. We have Chantelle Baker, who is Melbourne’s most popular makeup artist, teaching master classes to our students and we’ve also opened up our masterclasses to the general public. Our first one sold out in 24 hours! Chantelle comes in and creates a look that, for example, she did on Gigi Hadid the day before. The students are following all these girls so they know who she is and its exciting for them. I still think makeup has a long way to go in terms of being of a professional quality without having all of the nasties in it. Skincare has come a long way. Hourglass is good, but the colour palette isn’t wide ranging enough for the students to learn with. It’s just hard without those synthetic ingredients, that’s what makes the makeup last.

NARS, ELLIS FAAS AND YOUNGBLOOD ARE FIXTURES IN HER MAKEUP BAG. PICTURED ALONGSIDE HER FAVOURITE CHANEL AND MIU MIU CLUTCHES.
I like soft pink lip colours
The best lip liner going around at the minute is NARS in the shade anse soleil – it’s amazing. When I go out I always add a bit of Khol liner to my inner rims and wing it out a tad on my top, outer lash line. I’ll smudge it with a small brush to make it look smouldering rather than just a line drawn on. My Ellis Faas concealer is creamy and beautiful and the NARS stick is in Orgasm for a little extra shimmer on my cheeks. The NARS eye shadow palette is called “And God Created Woman” and the dark, chocolate browns in this are perfect for blending the kohl liner. I find NARS eyeshadows are great as they’re so highly pigmented. Your money goes a long way with NARS products!
My hair routine is…
wash, dry off, spray with Klorane Dry Shampoo in the top roots for volume, then tong with H2D tongsfor a loose wave. I’ll back comb the roots for a little extra volume or just pump it up with my fingers and let the dry shampoo work its magic. This will usually stay in for a couple of days so its great for a busy mum! And the L’Oreal Tecni.art Fix Design Spray is the best thing – it washes out and stays soft. I also use the Eleven Miracle Hair Treatmentbecause I’ve got quite a lot of colour in my hair. Marie Uva does my hair in Melbourne, she does my colour and cut, everything. I walked in there eight years ago when I moved to Melbourne and never left. She’s got a salon on Greville Street in Prahran

I’ve become interested in home wares since building my house
I just kind of designed my house and then started decorating and got obsessed. I was never really into it at all but then having to decorate my home, it just kind of became an obsession. My husband says when women turn thirty they start yearning for home wares and cushions, and that’s what happened! I’m loving linen at the moment, Adairsare doing it really well and Bedouin Societe. That crushed French linen is really hot right now.
