Oh, bless the beauty gods for awards season. Red carpet coveting is a pastime we love – a rollout of beauty inspo we can admire, emulate and praise. While these soirees get a lot of flak for the focus on women’s beauty (because, of course, they’re extremely talented humans) – a lot of work, consideration and time from both the actresses and their dedicated beauty crews, so we’re more than happy to give it the kudos it deserves. So, here are favourite beauty moments from this year’s Screen Actor Guild awards. Enjoy!
Ariel Winter’s Bright Lip Color
The young Modern Famil y star wowed us with a pop of orange-pink lip colour, contrasted beautifully with her dark ‘do. It’s not always easy for the kids of Hollywood to grow up in front of the public, particularly women. So we’re loving the seamlessly elegant way Ariel has been doing this on the red carpet over the last few years. This is by far our favourite, though. But, if you’re wanting to emulate her look, test shades in store (as opposed to adding to your online basket). Bold, statement lips are for everyone… You just have to find the shade perfect for you. If you can’t find it, blending your own shade with two lipsticks is a nifty, bespoke trick.

Chrissy Teigen’s Glam Waves
Chrissy Teigen’s legs in a gorgeous black Dior dress weren’t the only thing that stole the show at the SAG red carpet. Her long, elegant waves was a classic twist on her usually very sexy, effortless beauty choices. Tamed tresses lifts the whole look, suited perfectly for a glam event – also, for the non-famous, perfect for special events like weddings or trumped up date nights. The trick is to keep hair frizz-free but not crunchy – a quick spray of humidity resisting spray right before you leave the house will do the trick. Oh, and don’t touch your hair… The oils from your hands will gradually make the otherwise smooth wave a little bit piece-y, wrecking the overall Old Hollywood glamour feel.

Sofia Vergara’s Full Lashes
Plump lashes are always a winner and, as if she needed anything else to make her any more beautiful, Sofia Vergara pulled out all the stops for her peepers. Big lashes mean you can kind of tone down the rest of your look, and they never go out of style. If you weren’t naturally graced with a long, full lash, fake lashes are a relatively easy (especially if you get a pro to do it for you) option when everyday volumising mascara just isn’t going to cut it. If you have a steady hand, DIY individual lashes are best because you can build on the look and aren’t tied to a set that doesn’t suit your eye (Bold lash, good. Overbearing lash, bad).

Emma Stone’s Emma Stone-ness
She won on the night for oh-so-many reasons. It’s hard to pinpoint just one aspect of her SAG red carpet look… From her ‘natural’ hair hue (Emma is surprisingly not a natural red head, she just suits the look like she is), simple makeup and not a spray tan in sight – her pale skin was set off beautifully by an Alexander McQueen gown – we couldn’t get enough of the look that saw her through to her Best Actress win for La La Land.
