The Royal George has been a lot of things in 120 years. Horse stables. A hotel. A pub. A restaurant. Now the heritage building on Duke Street holds a 50,000 litre ice pool and a hot magnesium pool across two storeys, the most ambitious thing Alchemy has built. The brief was Roman bathhouse meets contemporary sauna. Two years of work went in before the doors opened in June. Memberships sold out before anyone had bathed. There are three saunas, a steam room and ice showers, and the old bones of the place hold all of it. Book a casual session. The locals already have.
