eclectic chairs and exposed brick complement the organic ethos of the salon
Nestled in the eclectic inner west suburb of Newtown, Mr Burrows Hair is a kitschy-cool salon that is fitted out with a woody, inviting interior that feels somewhat like being at home, only more luxurious. Lush gardens make this space a haven in the hustle of the city- and combined with fabulous staff who pay the highest amount of attention to the finer details, Mr Burrows Hair is a heavenly salon experience.
Located on Enmore Road right near Newtown Station, Mr Burrows was listed as ‘Australian Hair Fashion Award Finalist’ in 2014 for good reason. Upon arrival, I am greeted with a beverage of choice (My choice? A deliciously bubbly glass of organic champagne) and a gorgeous cheese platter. The staff definitely know how to host a beautiful experience from the get-go. The salon was created by Mr James Burrows himself, who has been working at the height of hair colour and styling for 10 years and working as a senior designer for six. The salon also boasts a line of staff James has clearly trained technically so there is little room for error.
All cuts are created to ensure longevity of style (through a particular layering method). Their approach is to gift you with a style that ensures you look glamorous every day, and not just for the few days after you leave the salon. For this reason, they provide in-depth tips on how to recreate the look at home so you aren’t left with that post-salon depression that comes after the next wash. Perfect for anyone who’s far from being an expert with the blow dryer (like yours truly).
Mr Burrows have an organic product philosophy which is evident from the shampoo right through to the colours. There’s no harsh chemicals or toxic ingredients in any products, and on top of this, they’re all Australian made.
Leaving the salon I feel completely refreshed and confident. It’s actually the first time I’ve walked out of a salon without that nail biting fear or horrible sense of regret. If you’re ever in the inner west and want to stray from your usual, head straight to Mr Burrows.
