In this episode I am catching up with the absolutely hilarious and candid Bianca Dye. We are broadcasting from the back of Bianca's iconic Kombi van, parked along the stunning Kingscliff waterfront, and it is such a fun and intimate setting for this chat. Bianca and I go way back, and she has a rare gift for making you laugh and cry in the same breath. Behind all the warmth and humour is a woman who has lived through real pressure, performed through it, and come out the other side determined to talk honestly about mental health.

From a showbiz family to running away to the circus

Bianca grew up the daughter of stage performers, splitting her childhood between the Gold Coast and Melbourne, and showbiz was simply in her blood. After school she famously ran away to join the circus before returning within a year, and her first proper performing gigs included working as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator. It was an unconventional upbringing, and as she explains in this chat, it is exactly what gave her the fearless, do anything attitude that carried her into a demanding industry.

The wild radio years

From those early days Bianca worked her way up through breakfast radio to become one of Nova's most popular presenters, a foundation voice when Nova 96.9 launched in Sydney. She takes us through the rollercoaster of it all, the live energy, the long hours, and the reality of finding your voice and confidence in a male dominated industry. It is a candid look at what it actually takes to make your mark on air, and what that level of constant performance can quietly cost you.

The reality of anxiety and panic attacks

These days Bianca is using her platform to advocate for mental health, something she has personally faced and worked hard to overcome. She speaks openly about her anxiety and the panic attacks that came with the pressure of performing, and about the decision to stop hiding it. Her honesty is the whole point. Hearing someone so funny and so successful talk plainly about the hard days is a powerful reminder that none of us are alone in it.

Turning it into advocacy with Anxiety Free

Out of her own experience, Bianca created Anxiety Free, an Instagram community built to break the stigma around anxiety and offer real support to others who are struggling. With a combined following of more than 70,000 people, it has become a genuine source of comfort and connection. Her warmth, humour and vulnerability shine through in this conversation, and it is a beautiful example of taking the hardest part of your story and turning it into something that helps other people.
